In 1966, Ken Stanley invented a way to fasten composite materials both securely and efficiently. This invention, called bigHead, is a fastening system consisting of a large head that optimally distributes loads combined with a functional element such as a stud or a socket.

The two welded components form either a bonded or embedded fastener, eliminating the need for drilling. Materials remain intact and the fixings stay invisible. Another advantage of bigHead components is that they allow faster assembly. The bigHead catalogue includes more than 400 versions of standard fastening systems, available in 316 stainless steel or galvanized steel.
Today, bigHead, owned by the Bossard Group (Switzerland), is used in the automotive, aeronautics and aerospace industries… and of course in boatbuilding as well!
