British yard Broadblue Catamarans offers a 40 foot model which is light, performs well and is built for the great outdoors… the Rapier 400 is an original catamaran, and here are the full results of our test. 

Light and well-canvassed, the Rapier 400 is better than under power from 5-6 knots of wind
The self-tacking solent makes maneuvers easy and hardly blocks the helmsman’s view
An enjoyable boat which is perfectly balanced under sail
Several layout versions are available on option. The saloon is convertible and can transform into a double berth - or TV lounge…
At the helm (here, with the long coachroof version) you are well-protected and, a nice surprise, the view forward is excellent
Our test boat was a “galley down” version
And in the opposite hull, there’s a lovely chart table
The aft cabins have big bunks which are 1.60m wide
If you prefer cooking in the open air, the galley can be fitted forward in the saloon…
To avoid unnecessary risk, the hulls can be closed off with a sliding, watertight hatch
