The question of opting for sail or power would seem absurd in the world of monohulls where the boundaries between the two seem pretty watertight. With multihulls however, the idea of getting shot of the rig is not new, nor is the idea of designing a motor boat with two or three hulls... Two concepts which have long been on the fringes of big sections of the market. But today, most multihull sailboat builders also offer powercats. Some yards have even launched themselves exclusively into this market - it looks like they’re doing well!

A look at the market Remember the 1990’s? Privilège launched their Euphorie 40, with 23 units built, followed by the 44 and the Transcat, at 45 and 48 feet. After a break of nearly ten years, the Sables d’Olonne shipyard on France’s west coast came back on the market with their Euphorie 5, directly originating from their Série 5.
