The wind is very light and Chris Tibbs, the ARC’s meteorologist, is telling us that it’s going to be southerly. It’s sixteen years since my first transatlantic on a 37 foot monohull, in a somewhat different scenario: there are 5 of us plus Hades, a landseer (a maritime rescue dog), my life insurance, on board Cat’Leya, a Lagoon 52… I’ve been dreaming of this transat, and now we’ve done it!

My first transat, in 2000, was a bit of a revelation. Setting out from Mindelo in the Cape Verde islands, we reached Martinique after 17 days’ sailing in total “zen” mode.
