The 43 stands out from its predecessor thanks to an elegant cutaway in the deck line at the stern, its saloon windows that appear uninterrupted when viewed from the outside, and a small lounge area fitted out on the foredeck.
Also worth noting is the deeper draft, increasing from 4’3” to 4’11” (1.3 to 1.5 m), and the air draft, with the rig being nearly 3 feet (1 m) taller. The upwind sail area, with the square-topped mainsail, increases from 1,255 square feet (116.6 m²) to 1,395 square feet (129.6 m²). At the same time, the displacement rises from 30,200 lbs (13.69 t) to 32,475 lbs (14.73 t), resulting in a sail area-to-weight ratio that increases from 8.52 m²/t to 8.80 m²/t.
At the bow, the Leopard 43 can be fitted with a composite longeron/bowsprit for flying downwind sails, and this option allows for a one-piece trampoline.
While the shipyard has included solar panels on the aft end of the rigid bimini that are capable of generating up to 1,365 Wp, the hybrid option developed for the Leopard 46 and 52 doesn’t appear in the catalog – a shame…
The Leopard 43 will premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival this coming September, followed by appearances at Barcelona and Annapolis.
